Students Called On To Join Co-Curriculum

Students Called On To Join Co-Curriculum
By James Kon

Bandar Seri Begawan - As Detailed in the Co-Curriculum for Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Colleges Policy Book 2007, all students must be involved in co-curriculum activities. And the proceedings can be run inside or outside of the classroom in accordance to the needs of the activities and the capability of the schools.

This was said by Director of Co-Curriculum Education at the Ministry of Education Awang Arsad bin Abdul Adis in his welcoming remarks at the closing ceremony for teachers of a police cadet course yesterday at Royal Brunei Police Force Training Centre.

Awang Arsad, who was also the guest of honour, said co-curriculum activities are aimed at assisting the students in mental and spiritual development while fostering values and skills.

He also said, "With an understanding of the importance of co-curriculum activities, the Ministry of Education has arranged for the students to participate in one of four components of co-curriculum activities; religion, art and culture; sports and games; clubs and bodies; and uniform groups.

"All four components have their benefits. For example, a uniform squad would teach students discipline, leadership and ethics, while joining a sport team would lead to healthy body and mind."

Meanwhile, some 13 police cadet teachers received their certificates from the guest of honour.

Also present at the ceremony were Inspector Zainal bin Haji Ibrahim, the officer in charge of police cadets and a facilitator of the course, and Deputy Commandant of Police Training Centre DS P Haji Khaiirur Rijal bin Haji Abu Salim
